ORA-CMR Orientation using Petromac reduces Cable-Damage Risk on TLC in Guyana

The standard method for positioning the NMR pad and sampling probes on TLC is to rotate the drill pipe from surface. In highly deviated wells, however, torque transfer can be unpredictable, particularly across high-dogleg sections and poor borehole conditions. This can result in unreliable probe orientation, inefficient sampling, and increased risk of cable damage. To mitigate this risk, Petromac Tool Taxis were deployed to reduce reliance on surface pipe rotation and maintain continuous low-side orientation of both the ORA probes and the CMR pad. Pathfinder ensured tool moved seamlessly through ledges, washouts and heavy cuttings. This approach enabled accurate probe positioning, reliable CMR orientation, and safer conveyance in a high-risk environment. The result was successful fluid sampling and high-quality NMR measurements without exposing the cable to unnecessary rotation-related risk.
